'The scarcity of performances of Berlioz's Te
Deum is generally attributed to the difficulty of bringing together the
required comibation of massed choirs, tenor soloist, organ and full scale
orchestra, but this supreme feat was achieved at the abbey on Saturday with all
the various elements superbly in place for a riveting performance of this
