Our Repertoire

As our name suggests we generally perform one of the Bach Passions or the Mass in B minor roughly every couple of years, but our programme also includes a wide range of works by other composers. Over the last ten years these have included:

  • Poulenc Gloria (2009)

  • Britten St Nicholas (2009)

  • Handel Solomon (2010)

  • Bernstein Chichester Psalms (2010)

  • Elgar The Dream of Gerontius (2011)

  • Rachmaninoff Vespers (2012)

  • Fanshawe African Sanctus (2012)

  • Britten War Requiem (2013)

  • Verdi Requiem (2014)

  • Handel Israel in Egypt (2014)

  • Walton Belshazzar's Feast (2015)

  • Fauré Requiem (2016)

  • Mozart Requiem (2016)

  • Dvořák Stabat Mater (2017)

  • Handel Messiah (2017)

In April 2006, we performed the world premiere of Joseph Phibbs' Tenebrae, specially commissioned by St Albans Bach Choir, with soloist Lesley-Jane Rogers and the Cathedral choristers and lay clerks.

In more than fifty years of concert-going I cannot remember an event that more electrified an audience than the world premiere of Joseph Phibbs’ Tenebrae in St Albans on Saturday.
